How to transform your WordPress site into a social recruiting machine

So, I haven’t been blogging much recently, but I haven’t been living under a rock so I’m going to talk about something in tune with the current trends in social media.

I bet you’ve heard about “social recruiting” (definition by Wikipedia) strategy, software, anything.

Well Jobvite did a good job sometime ago publishing a survey on the matter and now everyone is talking about it. Well, at least everyone somehow involved in the HR sphere.

It’s no news that nowadays companies try to save few bobs there and there, while attempting to hire the best possible talent around.

It’s a known issue that the most amazing people are probably employed and might also be passively looking for a job, balancing their options.

Well, you need to be on top of your game to snatch these great people up before anybody else will do so.

In light of this, I’m sure you currently use some sort of Candidate management system or ATS (application tracking system). A lot of them I think would be quite similar in their offer and the choice would probably be down to personal preference. Leading ATS like Jobvite, include some social integration and employee referrals, which I assume, come connected to a hefty price tag, since there is no way to see their pricing on the website without registering or contacting sales.

That for me is already a major put off. I quite like The Resumator, they’ve recently revamped their website, which looks good, and also I like they’re quarky and funky approach and the fact that they show their plans and pricing. That said, the basic plan starts at 49$ with 3 jobs available. So it’s definitely not cheap, but you can try for free for 14 days.

So, you might be thinking now, what’s WordPress to do with this blog post? So far, nothing. But I’m coming to it.

One of the most innovative as well as seriously well designed app is Zartis. They’ve been in the market for a couple of years with their flagship product, HR Locker, a self service HR software solution to manage annual leave and employees details. Few months ago they’ve launched their latest – and coolest – addition to their SaaS portfolio, a social recruting software.

So, I obviously like their style and also I like their pricing plans. You can sign up for FREE and get 1 job with this plan or optionally, you can sign up for their PRO plan and get 20 jobs with it.

I think it sounds very reasonable compared to not knowing the price (and being forced to talk to sales) or the basic $50!!

Anyhow, another couple of points which will set the guys from Zartis apart from the rest of social recruiting software providers.

1. They offer a super easy to install widget for your website, fully customasible, which will sit on your site and show that “we’re hiring” and allow applicants to apply from it directly with either a CV or LinkedIn profile.

2.They seem to believe so much in what they’re doing that they’ve built a FREE jobs listing plugin for WordPress users. As far as I know, nobody else has anything similar on offer and knowing that are almost 60 million other WordPress sites, I’d say they can’t go wrong with this. A lot of business sites nowadays are made with WordPress and using this plugin will surely make the hiring process. According to Zartis you can “Easily add job listings and secure candidate management to your WordPress site.” It’s basically super simple and straight forward and lets you quickly and easily create your own jobs page and automate much of the recruitment process. One feature I particulary find useful and enjoyed is that it also allows you to automatically post your vacancies to Twitter and Facebook. If you want to see an example of the little widget you check out the Zartis website.

In case you’ve missed the link above, you can now download their free WordPress job manager plugin .

So these are my considerations. Are you a WordPress user? Are you using any tools, software, apps to streamline your recruitment process?

Have you joined the social recruitment revolution? I’d like to hear from you, whatever you’re doing!

Are you into social recruiting?

Nowadays, everything is social. And if it isn’t, it has to be made so. At first I thought, what is the need?

But there is one. It’s like when you add the social element to something, you really do bring value with added connections and engagement. A person can be spurred on by something someone else said. In the same way, you could find the perfect candidate for your job, who otherwise, you would have most likely missed out on.

There’s a growing number of options in the recruitment space, but I’m increasingly convinced that traditional recruitment methodology is no longer enough. It would be sensible to integrate your traditional strategy with what technology offers. Tools like easy posting of ads to websites, job boards and social networks are just the beginning and definitely a must have, together with candidates management, tracking and monitoring tools.

Social recruitment is only at the beginning and is certainly bringing a fresh new look to the meaning of the word recruitment.

Check out this blog post for more info on the matter. This company provides other services as web based HR software and are building an innovative tool to suit the needs of the social recruitment space.

They’re looking for beta customers so, quick, get in early!

2011 HR Software market trends

Cloud computing sample architecture

Image via Wikipedia

I was reading a post on the software advice blog about where the HR software market is going.

It looks like firms are not going to buy a new HR software this year, but rather implement some new improvements on their existing software, such as administration and employees dashboards and self service as well as tracking for key HR metrics.

The big trend this year seem to be cloud based, software as a service HR systems.

I can see why they are quickly rising to the top as if you think about it, you probably use lots of cloud based services daily already, such as Dropbox or other apps that make your work easier (one I use is Wunderlist for to do management).

I think that the ability to access an application regardless of time or place is simply astonishing.
From the point of view of a company with multiple offices around the world, surely located in different time zones is a great advantage as they don’t have to wait for a colleague to be in the office to have information about an employee annual leave or check if they signed a document. They can access all these information by accessing an internet page with their personal login credentials.

Quoting Christopher Baum, from the above mentioned article:

Cloud-based HR systems are in strong demand. Aside from cost of ownership benefits, a compelling benefit of this model is the ability to leave the provider responsible for keeping the software compliant with current rules and regulations.

I think cloud based HR systems are definitely the way forward for the HR software market and for all software for that matter.

A good year for this HR software vendor

HR Software system just published a blog on one of our favourite HR software vendors.

You can read the full post over at HR software system, but we wanted to spend a couple of lines on HR Locker too.

They’re a young and vibrant startup, guided by expert serial entrepreneur John Dennehy.
So, you can be sure you’re in good hands.

If you take the time to read some of the articles in the press you’ll know what I mean.

According to its founder:

HR Locker was born out of the need for a more flexible, affordable and simple HR software solution

The beauty of using it is that it’s a straight forward system, which for instance enables you to have control over your employees data, as well as make them sign documents electronically (reducing time and paper waste at once) and produce thorough reports which your management would actually want to see.

If you’re an HR Manager, and are on the look out for a solution to your problems, I’d suggest you to try HR Locker, it’s free and no credit card required. No setup or infrastructure needed, it can always be wherever you are, as long as you have an internet connection.

By the way, they have a Chinese version of their system and they already have some clients in China too!

Sourcing business from China. Where to go?

Coastal China is known as the preferred destination for LCC (low cost countries) from which to source.

According to an article on China Briefing though, things are changing.
They suggest to consider carefully the kind of business you are in before picking a destination.
Coastal China isn’t the only option anymore. Depending on your business being capital-intensive, low-skilled labor-intensive, knowledge-based, or resource-based you could have other alternatives to coastal China such as inland China, Vietnam, and India.

  • Coastal China still stands out for three reasons mainly, which are infrastructure, relative ease of doing business and economies of scale. But you have to bear in mind that labour costs are rapidly increasing in the area and the trend is expected to continue in the medium term.

  • On the other hand, inland China offers a more cost effective labour and foreign business is encouraged through preferential tax and aid system.

  • India, would make a great base for manufacturing based companies, although logistics remains the drawback.

  • Vietnam land and labour costs are the cheapest out of the LLC options explored in this article, however, the lack of scale in both resources and capacity offsets the savings previously made.

  • In the end, choosing the most appropriate destination for your business depends on your business requirements.

    To make it short:

If your company’s costs is mostly affected by economies of scale, it would be financially sensible to stay in coastal China, while keeping an eye toward inland China in the near future.

If your company’s main requirement is the availability of low skilled and labour intensive workforce and in huge amount of factory space, inland China and Vietnam may both be attractive options for your business, offering low cost alternatives.

If your firm requires skilled labor, India’s massive number of yearly English-speaking college graduates creates a relatively inexpensive labor pool at a different part of the value chain.

Also, once you have an office set up, be it in China, India or Vietnam, if you need a low cost hr management solution which is easy and efficient, we recommend to have a look at this hr software vendor. It’s currently being used in China and also at a global level, and is available in both English and Chinese. As long as you have an internet browser the hr software can be accessed from anywhere, therefore saves your company admin and time money and the infrastructure set up costs.

Before choosing your destination consider every facet of the medal carefully, and have a well thought out business plan in place. For more information on this matter, check out the reference of this article here

FUTURES – Microsoft’s European Innovation Magazine

Some time ago I posted an entry with regards to cloud computing and hr software. Today, I would like to get back to that, or sort of. In Europe, Microsoft publishes The Futures magazine, which according to their website “was created in 2007 to showcase best practices and case studies in Innovation, R&D, and highlight achievements across Europe”. I am telling you this because the new Futures issue is just out. This issue’s title is “Small Business: Europe’s innovation engine”. I am thrilled that one of our favorite hr software has been featured on this issue with a two pages article. John Dennehy, talks about how important is the cloud to both hr software provider and customers. Small business now are empowered with the right tools to get bigger and faster. If you are interested in reading the full article, here’s the PDF version featuring hr software.

    Cloud computing and the future

You’ve probably heard of cloud computing a lot recently. It’s like one of the buzz words of the moment. Well, it has been for a while. There is a whole new industry behind it and also new concerns arise about the security provided. Some firms have used this as a possibility to tap into new markets, like create security as a service.  Others, have touched with hand the safety guarantees given by cloud computing platforms providers like Microsoft, and are happy to use them for business. Let’s explain. According to Wikipedia  Microsoft’ Azure Services Platform is “an application platform in the cloud that allows applications to be hosted and run at Microsoft’ datacenters. It provides a cloud operating system called Windows Azure that serves as a runtime for the applications and provides a set of services that allows development, management and hosting of applications off-premises”. The key points here are the trust and security offered to firms using Windows Azure services as well as the possibility to manage application from basically anywhere. article alley  reassures even the most skeptical ones that cloud computing technology “will be the wave of the future and will likely be changing how people use the info road for decades to come”.
Wikipedia gives also couple of examples of how and which company is using the Windows Azure platform and we note here an interesting application development. HR Locker, a Web 2.0 provider of  HR solutions to small to medium size companies was built on Window’s Azure cloud based computing platform. HR Locker chose to build their application on Windows Azure to avoid the worry of scalability, backup, security and the various other issues associated with hosting. This choice, provides the peace of mind that HR Locker customers deserve, as they are cared for.  So, if you are not convinced that SaaS are actually the future of business apps, pay a visit to the above mentioned free hr software website, and see for yourself.

HR and Du Lala are quite a duo!

So, in my previous post, I talked about talent and skilled workers. Here we are talking about the opposite. A not-well educated girl, whom, despite her lack of formal education, gets to a HR management position in a Fortune 500 companies. You all probably guessed already who I’m talking about. After the book, Du Lala stories have become plays and a movie. Also there will be TV series. Li Ke books are not only for recreation purposes, but can provide quite an insight in the working life in foreign companies in China. Most readers seem to be white collar workers looking for a career path inspiration, but also graduates Du Lala stories to acquire better social skills to deal with fellow colleagues and bosses. Du Lala is an example of an employee can develop and rise to the chance of better positions within the company. Besides teaching this, it sure made Human Resources Management more appealing!
